Although I'm a landscaper by trade up until a few years ago I was unable to have my own gardens. I was aware of Daylilies of course since I was in the Horticultural field, but my knowledge was pretty much limited to the "wild" orange Tiger lilies from when I grew up and the occasional yellow variety, as well at the limited choice that my plant suppliers had available.

I knew I wanted to grow Daylilies in my garden because they are such a low maintenance plant with great rewards and usually you will find that the last thing a landscaper wants to do when they get home is well, landscape.

I turned to the internet and fell in LOVE with the 1000's of varieties available from around the country!

I started this blog to share the photos of my Daylilies with friends and family and hopefully anyone that is interested in learning more about the hundred or so that I am presently growing. I will be adding photos on a regular basis. Please click on each one to enlarge it.

If you enjoy my blog please click on the advertisements, you don't have to do anything other than that. It doesn't cost you anything but it does earn me money and that way I can continue to buy new Daylilies to show you.

Thankyou very much!

Black Eyed Susan Daylily

One of my favorites!  4 1/2 - 5 inch blossoms on 24-36 inch scapes.  Some say no fragrance but others say good for attracting butterflies and birds.  Trumper shaped with a very high bud count and is considered a rebloomer.  Can be found at Springhillnursery.com and Brecks.com.

Eruption Daylily

As you can see in the photo, Eruption is a very large 6.5 to 7" size bloom.  So large and heavy that one of my roommates had to hold them up for this shot!  Cherry red with magenta veins and an impressive yellow green eye makes this one of my favorites.  Many blossoms on up to 36"scapes for a long period of time also makes this variety a smart purchase for any garden.  A mid to late bloomer that is not fragrant nor reblooms can be found at Smokeysdaylilygardens.com, Daylilyandhostagardens.com and Homesteadfarms.com.

Kwanso Daylily

This Daylily is a very confusing one.  Why, you ask?  Well because if you shop for it at multiple venues you will find that you get conflicting descriptions for it.  Some say it's dormant, others say it's an evergreen.  The difference in it's height can range from 24" all the way to 48".  It's been stated to be an early, midseason and even a late variety.  The description of it's color can be yellow, any shade of orange and sometimes red and size of the bloom also differs. The reason for this confusion is that it's (in my opinion) a pretty weed.  It has been around forever, our great great grandparents and beyond traded this flower with their neighbors.  In my neighborhood, it's pretty much all over the place.  It grows rapidly, can grow in shade, you can see it in rural ditches.  There is no doubt however that it is a very eye catching double and sometimes a triple blossom.  Before the introduction of all the fantastic modern day varieties, this was the "fancy" version of the even more wild basic orange "Tiger" lily.   No need to purchase this one, just ask a neighbor, or find it in a ditch!

Elvin King Daylily

A very difficult daylily to find, I really don't remember where I purchased it, but I'm glad I did!  The pumpkin orange with terra cotta washed eye and yellow green throat is just outstanding on this 51/4" bloom.  This slightly fragrant reblooming semi evergreen that stands 18-24" tall blooms midseason.  I could not find it anywhere but on auction sites.

Baja Daylily

Trumpet shaped brilliant red 6" blooms with a yellow halo and green throat makes this variety very popular and thus readily available.  It is a midseason semi-evergreen that reaches between 24-36" tall and has been said to grow up to Zone 2!  Available locally at Bachmans, and can be found at Day-lily.com, Brecks.com and Perennialnursery.com.

Transcendent Artistry Daylily

I love the blend of violet/lavender and white on this 4 1/4" bloom.  Even though it's what I consider a smaller flower, the colors on this one really makes it stand out.  An early to midseason slightly fragrant variety standing 24 to 36" tall is also a rebloomer.  I don't recall where I purchased this from and unfortunately in my recent search, the only place I found it is not selling daylilies at this time due to moving their stock.  Maybe you'll have better luck!

Strawberry Candy Daylily

This photo was also taken on a very humid day, and I love the way it turned out.  Strawberry Candy is an extremely popular variety, and you can see why.  It's 4 1/2" ruffled pink blossom with rose-red eye and golden green throat is spectacular!  It's an early-midseason variety and grows 26" tall, attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and is considered a very reliable rebloomer.  Available at a number of places including Directgardening.com, Oakesdaylilies.com and Americanmeadows.com.

Night Beacon Daylily

This photo was taken on an extremely humid day and that moisture in the air provided the pale hue effect that you see from the cameras eye.  Although an evergreen, and not supposed to over winter in climates past zone 5, I have found in my research that it has survived for many other Minnesotans other than myself.  An early to midseason bloomer and a very good performer with many 4" purple blooms and chartreuse throat on 28" scapes, it is considered a rebloomer in warm climates.  It can be found at Americanmeadows.com, Forestfarm.com and Oakesdaylilies.com.

Golden Gate Daylily

Not to be confused with "Siloam Golden Gate" this fast growing gold daylily has been a superior performer for me.  I have used it in a landscape project that I maintain, as well as my own garden.  A midseason bloomer that for me has continued to send up scapes all through the summer.  Large 5" almost spider like flowers on 36" scapes, this is for sure one that everyone should look into having.  I purchased mine from one of my suppliers but you can find it at Dayliliesforsale.com or Smokeysdaylilygardens.com

Inner View Daylily

I am finding that I have more evergreen daylilies that are not supposed to survive Minnesota winters than I thought! Who knew?  I love proving ZONE people wrong.  Although I believe climate change has something to do with it. Inner View is right up there as one of my favorites, it's large thick petaled 6.5" blossoms this summer kept coming for a long period sending more and more 36" scapes.  It is a very early bloomer and slightly fragrant. It is a rebloomer in warmer climates, but a very good extended performer for me.  Available at Floralandhardy.ca.com, Homesteadfarms.com and Thevalleyofthedaylilies.com.

American Revolution

Many many blooms on this it's first year of me having it, and a very extended blooming period as well as a rebloomer. It grows from 24-36" tall and the blooms are 5.5" wide!  A dormant Diploid that's a good increaser.  If you are looking for a good performing dark purple variety, this is it.  It is however very difficult to find.  I purchased mine at Smokeysdaylilygardens.com and I also found it available only at daylilydream.com.

Brenda Jane Daylily

Okay, Brenda Jane is a nocturnal daylily.  Those that open at night and stay blooming during the day.  Many people use this group of flowers for what is called a moon garden.  When it's dark your garden will glow because of nocturnal blossoms, it can be an awesome effect!  Standing 28" tall and with whopping 6.5" fragrant blooms in mid to late season, her presence is well noticed.  A dormant Tetrapoid, I purchased her from a very nice man at Homesteadfarms.com but you can also find her at Wrightsdaylily.com and Dayliliesbyname.com.

Laugh And Sing Daylily

Just a beautiful velvety crimson red!  With large 5" ruffled blooms on very tall 32" scapes, this one really stands out in the garden!  Although I did have to wait 2 years for it to bloom (not in the best of soil).  A mid season bloomer that is an extended bloomer as well as rebloomer in warmer climates.  I don't remember where I got it from and this one appears to be hard to find but I did find it available at Bloomriver.com, Rockhavendaylilies.com as well as Smithdaylilies.com

Rushing Delight Daylily

Living in zone 4 (Minneapolis), we are told that "evergreen" daylilies, those that the foliage does not die back in the winter, will not survive in our climate.  So for the most part I have stayed away from investing in them.  Which is very disappointing because I find that they tend to be the more colorful and luscious varieties available.  But by accident I ended up buying a couple or 3.  Low and behold I have found out that they have indeed made it through our harsh Minnesota winters, at least for me.  Take for instance Rushing Delight, it is just breathtaking!  An early to mid season variety standing 26" tall with 5" blooms and slightly fragrant. This reblooming Tetraploid is available at Soulesgarden.com, Edaylilies.com and tsflowers.com

Addie Branch Smith Daylily

Notice the white line going through the green, dark purple and orchid rose colors of this 4" bloom, very subtle and yet captivating.  Addie blooms midseason, June-July on 20"scapes above dark green foliage. Considered an extended bloomer she is a dormant Diploid and can be found at Oakesdaylilies.com, Finchvilledaylily.com, Paradisegarden.com and others.

Forty Second Street Daylily

This is a double daylily.  You can see that doubles have two(or more)sets of petals, which give the daylilies in this class a whole different look!  I only have a few doubles and am planning on getting more.  Although Forty Second Street is suppose to have 5" blooms, mine do not reach that width because I think the shade from some of my other perennials is minimizing it's potential.  The shades of pale pink, rose and mauve are super on this shorter 18-24" plant.  It is one of my few "evergreen" varieties and I'm surprised that it has survived in my cold Minnesota climate for 3 years. Considered a rebloomer in warmer climates.  Midseason, Diploid and extended bloomer.  Available at Dayliliesbythepond.com, Dayliliesforsale.com and Smokeysdaylilygardens.com.

Final Touch Daylily

I found this fragrant beauty at Lowes a couple of years ago and I am so glad I did!  It is a very late bloomer starting in August and continues to send up sturdy well branched scapes usually until frost.  It is so nice to see them when all others have finished.  It grows 24-32 inches tall with 4.75 inch flowers that last approx. 16 hours.  A great performer you can find at Jungseed.com, Bloomingdesigns.com and Oldheirloomroses.com among others.

Rocket City Daylily

An older variety that has remained popular over the years because of it's large 6" golden orange/burnt orange blooms.  It does have a halo of white on the edge, but does not show up on mine.  It grows 36" high and multiplies quite fast.  Early to midseason, it can be quite breathtaking with it's many blooms on any given day and is considered an extended bloomer.  A dormant Tetraploid available at SmokeysDaylilyGardens.com, PerennialPlace.com and Day-lily.com.

Ice Carnival Daylily

Ice Carnival is as close to a white Daylily that you are going to find at this time.  The creamy trumpet shaped flower with buttery yellow-green throats are also fragrant (which also is hard to find).  It grows 26-30" and the blooms can be 6" wide.  It is considered a rebloomer but in my Minnesota weather has not happened yet, although it has had a long blooming period.  This dormant Diploid is considered a mid-season bloomer.  I found it available at Easytogrowbulbs.com, Touchofnature.com and  GilbertHWild.com
